Nerissa glared at the mirror lying on the top of Havethor’s desk. It was small enough to hold, with intricate carvings winding up the handle and framing the glass. It was also unbearably obstinate. Not once in two days had so much as a wisp of air suggested the glass was about to fog over.
As a fairy godmother, sleep was entirely optional, and she’d made use of every moment wheedling, cajoling, threatening, and finally begging the servant of the mirror to appear.
And in the time it took the sun to rise and fall and rise and fall and rise again, the glass had only gotten clearer. Sharper. Nerissa threw her hands in the air. That was mirrors for you. Always there to give cryptic advice until you really needed it. Then they went as silent as normal glass. She gripped her wand and wondered how angry Havethor would be when he returned if the mirror suffered a minor accident.
If he returned.
