In Which Myles Leaves the Prince to His Own Devices

Chapter 22 is up! You can read the whole chapter–or whole novel so far–here.

Myles had never been so glad to be at court in his life.

As the courtiers milled about the throne room while they waited for the king, he eyed the corners, the shadows, and underneath the tables lining the walls. To his relief, there wasn’t a single cat-shaped creature among them.

The faint memory of his time back at the castle in the enchanted forest made him shudder. The cats’ maniacal grins had become a nightmare of their own—both when he was awake and asleep. Something about them reminded him of a wildness that couldn’t be tamed, but had sharp claws and teeth all the same.

Magic or no magic, Baldemar was on his own from here on out if he wanted to ever go back. At least they’d left the cats far behind them, and the cats hadn’t seemed inclined to follow.
