A lazy smile spread across Myles’s face. He was floating in a saucer of cream puffs. The sweet, buttery scent of the pastries nestled against him, purring. He flicked his hand, content, the whisper of cream against his fingers soft and delightful. Two great eyes like two slivers of a golden coin loomed before him, and a pearl crescent with jagged points curved below them. Never in his life had he felt such peace. Such happiness. Such—

What was he thinking?

Myles bolted upright, and the vision of cream puffs dissolved into a dim room with a slightly lumpy mattress and silk bed sheets. He leaned back against the headboard, his heart trying to outrun the nightmare. He shook his head. He’d never dreamed of food like that before, and he wasn’t sure whether to be frightened or disgusted. Hald, on the other hand, dreamed of little else.
