In Which Myles Agrees to Help

Chapter 26 is up! You can read the whole thing here.

Myles studied his worktable critically. He doubled checked to make sure all the bottles were in the right order, and that he had all the materials he needed on hand. He was quite sure the grand duchess would start a petition demanding his head should he make a mistake with this particular spell again.

“You’re sure this is all we need?” he asked Hald, his eyes still scanning the neatly labeled bottles. Larkspur, honeymellow, starshine, flax, powdered ebony . . .

“Hald?” he ripped his eyes away from the bottles and looked around the room. It wasn’t like his cousin to desert him right before Myles called forth potent magic. Grumbling, he walked to the door and yanked it open. He stuck his head through the doorway and looked down the hall on either side. He saw some marble, a lot of gilding, and a few fancy vases, but no Hald.
