Blossom watched the whole exchange from the chandelier.
The two mortals hurried from the room, their heads bent toward each other as they murmured their plans. The fairy godmother gave a satisfied nod before vanishing in a purple cloud of smoke that smelled of lilacs. The girl remained where she was, facing the window, her back straight, and her paws hidden in the blue silk of her skirts.
It wasn’t until Blossom’s fingers and legs became cramped that the girl allowed her shoulders to slump and her countenance to fall. Blossom gripped the chain of the chandelier tighter and put a hand to her apron pocket. The girl was unhappy, but the mistress could help.
